Tonight’s season finally has the sisters and brothers of our favorite houses facing the disheartening fact that not everybody loves the Greek system. When the school newspaper paints a less than flattering picture of our coeds, the sororities and fraternities unite in their displeasure. The news that they aren’t worshipped and adored by everybody on campus sends them all reeling. I mean come on; they’re all just a bunch of hard-working, goal-oriented kids who want to have fun, what could be so bad about that? I don’t know, maybe the fact that one of the major goals of any sorority or fraternity is to make these poor kids go through hell trying to get in, only to humiliate them at every turn along they way. I know, this sounds bitter, but honestly it’s the truth. If you’re going to play cat and mouse with entrance into your kingdom, than you have to get a thicker skin and take the hits.
That isn’t to say these kids are all bad. Casey (Spencer Grammer) and Rusty (Jacob Zachar) are good at heart, and play fair most of the time. Well at least if you’re going along with their agenda. Don’t forget Casey was the one who told her best friend that her boyfriend just didn’t fit in. And keep in mind that Rusty was the former nerd who told a current nerd that he was just too busy with his new exciting fraternity life to find time to hang out with the poor slob. But, they usually come back to earth, by the end of the episode. I guess that’s the challenge; trying to stay true to who you are while maneuvering through the maze of life that is college. I think anybody who makes it through the crazy thing with their head still twisted on straight should get an automatic psychology degree, along with the one they get for their actual major.
But it’s not just the brothers and sisters that have a hard time with all that dirty laundry being aired, the dean of students has sworn to keep a closer eye on the whole Greek system. Of course, this does not sit well with the newly independent students on campus. Now here’s the kicker folks, sweet and innocent Jen K (Jessica Rose) is the snitch that ratted out her fellow sisters. Apparently, in her attempt to get on the highly competitive school newspaper, she proposed an undercover sting operation in the beginning of the semester. That little sneak; that means she planned the setup the whole time. And poor Rusty, his nerdy little heart has broken under the weight of her betrayal. Even worse is the fact that this humiliation has left the sisters to defend themselves to the head of the sorority, played to perfection by Charisma Carpenter from BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER.
Meanwhile, Ashleigh (Amber Stevens) has broken up with her arrogant boyfriend, and thrown herself at Calvin (Paul James.) It just isn’t Ashleigh’s week; first she has to watch her sorority get thrown to the wolves, and then she finds out the object of her affection is gay. Oh well, it’s the end of the school year. I’m sure all will be well after a summer filled with bonfires and keggers. Seeing his buddy get rejected by one of his best friends, gives Rusty a different perspective on what his girlfriend felt she had to do. Alas, it isn’t enough to save their relationship. Too bad, I really thought those two had a fighting chance. But, all is not lost the Zeta house may still have a chance, after Casey falls on the sword to save the sorority from being expelled from the national chapter. This act of selflessness gets her promoted to President of the sorority, which really pissed off her big sis. I see some nasty revenge coming Casey’s way. Starting with her disgruntled big sister trying to destroy Casey’s – already rocky – relationship with Evan (Jake McDorman.)
But honestly, all of that pales in comparison with what Calvin is going through. After accidentally being outed to his fraternity, he has to face the cold, hard fact that his new college buddies may not be as grown up as they think they are. Hopefully, spending the summer to cool off and mature will bring a true sense of brotherhood to this crew. But, that’s something we’ll all have to wait until 2008 to find out. Until then, Greeks forever!
THE 4400 -- "One Of Us"
When did you come in hon?? Must a been half way through, cause to me this was mystyfying!! If I came in at the half way mark, I would have said it was boring too. I never watch a show if it has already started. Some shows you have to watch from the very beginning, or you'll miss the punch line dear!! Have you ever seen dune?? Thats one example right there!! My son use to live with me, and he would do that, or he would watch the first 2 minutes, and say it was boring. For instance, the shaggy dog. We were watching it on my computor, and the sound was messed up, so I ordered the dvd. What a difference it made. He wouldn't watch it though. He said it was boring based on what he had already seen!! GET MY DRIFT??
