Crewmember killed on BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT set

By Susan Lee

According to BBC News, a special effects technician has been killed during a stunt test run after a 4x4 truck hit a tree.

The man (whose identity has not yet been publicly released), perished when the camera platform vehicle crashed whilst following a stunt car (possibly the Batmobile).

Emergency services pronounced the man dead at the scene in Longcross (about 30 miles southwest of London).

According to various sources, a Warner Bros spokeswoman said no actors were involved and the accident did not happen on set or while filming was taking place.

She said: "Warner Bros Pictures and the entire cast and crew of The Dark Knight are deeply saddened by this tragedy and their hearts and prayers go out to the family and loved ones of the deceased."

A Health & Safety Executive spokesman confirmed two vehicles had been involved in a "filming production exercise" when the crash happened.  A joint investigation by local police and the HSE has been launched.

BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT, made by Warner Bros Pictures, has been filming in Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Chicago and the UK and is set for worldwide release next summer.

News of this type brings back unwelcome memories of the TWILIGHT ZONE and THE CROW accidents.  How real do we want it?  How close to the action do we actually have to be?  Who’s to blame?  How do we prevent these things from happening again?  Sure, accidents happen, but safety measures and the protection of everyone involved should be first and foremost in the filmmakers’ minds.  I thought that’s what all the new-fangled digital special effects were for: to create situations that are either impossible to replicate in the real world or simply too dangerous.

Check out this interesting (but all too brief) article on Chicago Artists Resource about the rise in stunt person injuries and fatalities.

KICKIN' IT OLD SKOOL: Maybe It Should Have Stayed in A Coma
I just rented the movie. I like the way Jamie Kennedy acts in his movies. I thought the movie was funny just like Malibu's Mosted Wanted.

Ocean’s Thirteen — How Cool Are You?
Entertaining enough, and helped by good performances from the all-star cast, but like the second film, it drags due to an overlong running time. However, it is still an improvement over Twelve and a lot better than some of the other third installments that have been released this year - Spiders and Pirates, hint hint, for instance! The film is worth seeing alone for the two hilarious scenes featuring Oprah, which are both instant comedy classic scenes - absolutely hilarious. If the rest of the film had been so great this would've been the comedy of the year.

Evan Almighty — Misses the (Water)Mark
I enjoyed the movie. I am upset that so many are giving poor reviews because it wasn't "hard hitting" or “dark and deep." If you watch it, it is blaringly obvious that it is a family movie, not a movie with the intent to stir up religious controversy or to point out psychological inadequacies. To attempt to review it with those thoughts in mind is ridiculous. It is a very good family movie that children and teenagers will enjoy along with their parents, along with some average moviegoers who aren't looking for a dark piece of Oscar worthy material. Yeah, it’s predictable, but then again, so are most movies that come out these days. Heck, predictable ones win awards all the time. People take comfort in knowing that a movie like this will end how it is "supposed" to. The hero saves the day, like thousands of heroes before him.
