Peter Petrelli (Milo Ventimiglia) is in Ireland with a wiped memory. Monhinder Suresh (Sendhill Ramamurthy) is in Haiti curing The Haitian (Jimmy Jean-Louis). Claire (Hayden Penettiere) is cutting off body parts. Maya and Alejandro (Dania Ramirez and Shalim Ortiz) are sneaking into Mexico. Matt (Greg Grunberg) is questioning Angela Petrelli (Cristine Rose) about the murder of Mr. Nakamura (George Takei). And Hiro (Masi Oka) is rescuing beautiful women in a completely different century.
It’s another action-packed week on HEROES!
Peter has been moved out of the storage container on the docks and into a seedy dark room where he’s getting his butt whooped by three thugs. The beating doesn’t help Peter’s memory, and finally they give up. A few hours later, in comes Caitlin (Katie Carr), the beautiful sister of Irish Thug Number One Ricky (Holt McCallany). Caitlin cleans up Peter to discover he has nary a mark on him, and then when she leaves him alone, he turns on his phasing powers and gets out of his ropes. Looks like three powers are up and running. When Caitlin is being accosted by two guys in the bar, we find out that powers four, five, and six are working as well when Peter shoots lightening bolts at one guy, tosses a gun across the room with his mind, and tosses a guy across the room with his super strength.
While Peter is off rediscovering himself in Ireland, his mother is being questioned in New York. After Matt goes uninvited into her mind, Mrs. Peterelli asks for a lawyer. In the short time that everyone is out of the room, she’s brutally attacked by some unseen force. Is this the same entity that murdered Mr. Nakamura? If so, why didn’t it kill her? Could this entity be the thing of which Molly (Adair Tishler) is so afraid?
Since I don’t have those answers yet, let’s move on to Japan where Hiro is trying to get Kensei (David Anders) to sober up and save Yaeko (Eriko Tamura). It’s not gonna happen, so Hiro does what only Hiro would do—go in his place, save the girl, make her fall in love with him, and not take a bit of the credit. Masi Oka always impresses me with his expressive face and this time was no different. When Yaeko is standing among the cherry blossoms waiting for a kiss, the look of longing on Hiro’s face pulled a bit on my heartstrings.
Back in the 21st century, Claire is becoming more and more agitated with having to hide her gift. In class, she asks about a lizard’s ability to regenerate, and you can just see the wheels turning in her mind as she contemplates her own regenerative powers. Her stalker West (Nick D’Agosto) seems interested too, and later sees Claire cut off her own pinky toe with a pair of scissors. OK, I don’t know about your household scissors, but mine barely cut paper straight. Can someone tell me where to get the ones that will cut off appendages?
With all these little stories going on, there is still the background bigger story of Noah (Jack Coleman) and Mohinder working together to bring down The Company. Noah reveals an Isaac Mendez original of Mr. Nakamura’s death, and we find out there are seven more. I assume this means that seven more of our heroes are going to die.
Suresh tracks down and cures The Haitian with the help of Bob (the great Stephen Tobolowsky) and now the three of them are going to work together to find the other paintings. Bravo on bringing back the Mendez artwork. I really enjoyed seeing little snippets of the future that way, and to think that we may be meeting a few more elder heroes (hopefully) before they die is fascinating.
