I’m going to skip right past the crime scene in the week’s episode because I have a serious issue with maggots. Just thinking about the maggots is making me a bit squeamish; so let’s definitely talk about something else.
Fetish horseplay anyone?
Yeah. That’s much better.
This week on BONES, Brennan and Booth (Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz) investigate the murder of a man who liked to be a pony. His semi-ritualistic killing appeared to be like the slaughter of a horse, and it turns out he was really into the S&M pony thing. Oh, and the guy’s name was Ed.
When the duo sets off to check out the hotel he was staying in, they are bombarded by a whole room of role players. Booth, in his very straight-laced way, can’t get past the fetish. All these people who are riders or ponies just weird him out a little too much. It makes for some great chuckles (did I just say chuckles?) to watch him never back down from throwing insults at everyone he interviews at the ranch.
Also funny? To see how cool Brennan is around all of the role-playing. Obviously, no amount of fantasy sexual weirdness will faze this woman. She sees everything from a strictly anthropological stance. It bugs Booth to no end, and also brings a bizarre air to this episode. It’s all about sex.
You would think that a show with two main characters who’ve got sexual tension coming out their ears pushed the tension even further this week by introducing a murder amidst a very sexual group of people. Oddly though, I felt no tension. Even in the last few minutes of the episode, when Booth and Brennan are having their weekly heart-to-heart, Booth goes on and on about how he prefers his love making, and there is little to no tension between the two. Yes, yes, I did notice Brennan getting a little wide-eyed as she swallowed past the lump in her throat, but I didn’t see her reaction as “I must get you into bed.” It was more of a “Well, there’s something I didn’t know about you.”
Since the investigation involved a lot more flesh than bones, Angela (Michaela Conlin) didn’t really have much to do. So she spent time preparing for her hypnosis session to find out the name of her elusive husband. Her nerves seem to be getting the better of her, which leads me to wonder how much she really wants to marry Hodgins (T.J. Thyne). Before the episode ends, my worries are dispelled when her hypnotic state brings visions of a human-sized wasp, which leads her to find a picture and the name of mystery husband. Yay! Finally Hodgins and Angela can tie the knot…hopefully.
Again, it’s another week of Cam (Tamara Taylor) having nothing to do but be the person in the room the main characters talk to. Is the woman ever going to get her own storyline? I’ve waited patiently since her near death experience last season, but nothing yet. Maybe she and Booth will hook up again and things can be interesting for a couple of weeks. Until then, she seems like a real waste of screen time.
Zack (Eric Millegan) still seems to be a little out of place and distant since returning from Iraq. I’m hoping for his storyline to be explored more than any Cam one, so maybe I’ll get this wish a little sooner.
