BROTHERHOOD -- "Down in the Flood 3:5-6"

By Sabrina Cognata

The brother’s Caffee continue to indulge us with their tangled web of deceit, scandal & family values.  This week their cousin Colin Carr (Brian F. O’Byrne) shows up at the State House in search of Tom.  Tom welcomes him with open arms, hooks him up with a job & gives him a place to stay.  Rose, Tom & Michael’s (Jason Clarke & Jason Issacs) mother says that Colin is a bad seed and she wants nothing to do with him while he is in Providence.  Tom has his hands full with his failing marriage, the election and his cousin.

Michael on the other hand finds himself equally in trouble.  He’s in deep water for taking it upon himself to kill Nozzoli’s sister’s brother to collect a debt for Freddie Cork.  Turns out Nozzoli does not take kindly to this offense and Freddie sends Michael & Moe Riley (Billy Smith) to right their wrong.  Nozzoli tells Michael he needs him to hijack a truck filled with Play Station3s.  Michael & Moe get ready for the takedown.  As they get out of Moe’s car Michel tells Moe to let him do the talking.  Of course this sort of foreshadowing only means that Moe is going to screw things up, which is exactly what happens.  Michael starts the heist out very calmly explaining to the truck driver that nothing will happen to him if he hands over the keys, walks away, counts to a thousand and then calls anyone he wants for help.  At this point Moe decides it’s a good idea to throw himself into the mix and he grabs the truck driver, rips him out of the truck and begins to wail on him.  It is the sort of thing that should be an option if necessary, but it wasn’t necessary and the truck driver ends up having a heart attack.  Moe is a moron and Michael is screwed.  Michael tells Moe to take the truck driver to the hospital and make sure he survives. He doesn’t survive.

While all this is going on Michael continues to have blackout spells and episodes where he loses track of space and time.  Michael is in big trouble cause he’s not nearly as sharp as he used to be and relying on his instincts isn’t getting him anywhere.  He realizes this and goes to Pete McGonagle for help, but Pete’s skipped town in fear of Michael and what he might do.  Michael has no allies.  When Nozzoli calls Mow and Michael back to tell them the truck driver died Moe immediately blames Michael saying he is a psycho.  Michael remains silent.  Later on, Michael shows up to the bar and runs into Freddie Cork and Moe.  Freddie tells Michael he isn’t ready to be back in the game and for him to go home.  Someone else chimes in that Moe told them how Michael pissed himself in front of Nozzoli—something that never happened.  If I’m a psychic, and I am, I’ll bet you anything that Michael has it out with Moe soon and Moe is going to be very, very sorry.

In the meantime, things between Tom & Eileen (Annabeth Gish) are more strained than ever.  The arrival of his cousin Colin & his reliance upon his sister Mary Kate (Kerry O’Malley) are making bad things worse as Eileen’s advice about an interview is ignored and Tom is put on the spot exactly how Eileen anticipated.  Mary Kate tries telling Tom that if he wants to win he’s going to have to really try to make things work with his wife, but Tom’s jealous, angry and stubborn.  Eileen continues to be deeply offended when the Mayor invites Tom to dinner and he decides to bring his sister instead of his wife.  The two of them have to do something quick before all they have left is divorceland.

And if things are not stressful enough for Tom his cousin decides to screw around at work—the job Tom got him.  Take the screw around part literally as Colin’s boss catches him banging a secretary while he should have been working.  Tom confronts Colin about this and tells him he should probably move into his own place.  Colin apologizes profusely and tells Tom he will make amends with his boss in the morning.  Tom tells Colin to bring a bottle of Ketel One as a peace offering.  Colin agrees with Tom and sets on over to his boss’s house with a baseball bat and a bottle of Ketel One.  After demolishing his boss’s car he places the bottle on the hood as a peace offering.  The Caffee family is in big trouble this season.
