No rats were harmed in the making of this episode. I think.
This week of PRISON BREAK opens with Michael (Wentworth Miller) trying to lure a rat towards him with some chocolate. The night guards see the rat and shoot the poor critter into a million little bits. I guess there will be no night escape.
If anyone thought the possibility of Michael Scofield and Whistler (Chris Vance) successfully getting out of this prison was a long shot. What do you think of them escaping in the middle of the day? Yeah, I don’t think so either, but it will make for interesting television.
Now the two men have to figure a way to escape in the middle of the day. Michael’s plan sounds good enough. They’ll leave from a less crowded side of the prison and hope that the two guards they must get past won’t be paying attention as they run towards the hole Sucre (Amaury Nolasco) has made. Step one: figure out how to distract the guards. Turns out that’s not as hard as it sounds. One guard is a big sports fan, so Michael builds an EMP out of a microwave to screw with the man’s television. The other is distracted by the glare of the sun for exactly six minutes. Bingo! They’re window of opportunity has been planned; now all they have to do is be ready to run.
OK, all fans of the show know that nothing is ever that easy. While Michael is watching one of the guards, there’s a glint off his binocular lens and all of sudden, every guard on the grounds is inside searching for a weapon with a scope. When the “scope” is found, Michael’s cell is chained shut. No microwave EMP, no supplies, no nothing. There’s no way Michael and Whistler will be leaving the next day.
Unless…Mahone (William Fitchner), in his heroin-laced daze, has as good a plan as he thinks. Turns out the hard-to-distract guard drinks coffee every day. The men just need to get to his cup.
I assume this will take the rest of the season.
On the outside, Lincoln (Dominic Purcell), the sweatiest man in all of Panama, is setting up the getaway vehicle with Sofia’s (Danay Garcia) help. The catch is the vehicle fits into a Coleman cooler the size of spare tire. Is it a life raft? Hints of ESCAPE FROM ALCATRAZ, anyone?
There’s a new prisoner in Sona who seems to know Whistler back when his name was not Whistler and he was hanging with ambassadors in Nice. But I don’t even care about that. Honestly, the most interesting storyline is still centered on T-Bag (Robert Knepper). I can’t figure out his game. He’s already killed Lachero’s (Robert Wisdom) drug dealer so he can have the job. He’s giving Mahone free heroin, but why? Does he need Mahone’s help for something? Is he trying to break down Lachero’s power structure? I’m pretty sure that Lachero’s right-hand man Sammy (Laurence Mason) is trying to take over. Are these men going to butt heads? If so, there’s no question T-Bag would somehow win.
There’s another two-week break and then we’ll be faced with a two-hour “action packed episode.” I guess we’ll know if Michael and Whistler will successfully escape. Will Mahone actually be tagging along or will he get the short straw at the last moment? Will Lincoln finally have to tell Michael about Sara’s untimely demise? Will we finally find out what’s really up with that bird book? I hope so.
