Looks like there’s a new Ted Mosby in town – and this one’s got a huge schlong. That’s what the gang discovers after Barney finds a porn movie with another Ted Mosby in it. So the boys are off to the Adult Video Expo to find the new Ted in town.
In other news, Marshall (Jason Segel) has to decide between taking a job with the NRDC (the good company) or the big evil law firm, which would steal his soul but pay handsomely for it. And let the guest cameos commence!
First we have none other than Harold from HAROLD AND KUMAR GO TO WHITE CASTLE (John Cho) playing the evil lawyer Jefferson Coatsworth, who turns out to be a pretty nice guy and woos Marshall over to the dark side with scotch and corn dogs. It turns out the firm is totally corrupt and the theme park Marshall is about to represent will go down hard. But we find out about that through flash-forwards, so no need to worry for a few seasons.
After seeing him on the show, I looked up John Cho’s resume and was amazed to see how much work he’s done. In addition to HAROLD AND KUMAR and the AMERICAN PIE trilogy (you probably remember him as the “MILF guy”) he’s also been in IN GOOD COMPANY, AMERICAN BEAUTY and a slew of TV shows that are pretty famous but I’d probably never watch. Basically, if you need an Asian guy to play a cameo role, John Cho is your guy. You wonder if he got this gig from his work with Neil Patrick Harris (Barney) in HAROLD AND KUMAR – although they don’t actually share a scene in this episode.
But let’s get back to the show. The other cameo (that of the well-endowed Ted Mosby) was played by Kevin Hefferman, who’s been pretty busy himself. He was just on CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM, and SUPER TROOPERS 2 is allegedly in the works. God bless Rod Farva.
Anyway, it turns out that the real Ted protected the porno Ted from a fight when both of them were kids, so it’s just porno Ted’s way of saying thanks. Real Ted isn’t so happy – especially after giving an interview with an adult video magazine while thinking it was an architectural publication. But really, who among us wouldn’t be honored to have a porn star named after them? Right? Anyone? Really, just me. Who knew?
As for Marshall, he takes the job with the evil law firm. Which turns out to be a good thing, because Lily (Alyson Hannigan) has been secretly racking up credit card bills over the years and is way in debt. Somehow she’s never told Marshall about this, which seems a bit inconceivable since they’re married and have been living together forever. You’re telling me he never saw a bill in the mail? Never questioned where all her clothes came from. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: These chick plotlines have become totally lame this season. Get rid of the girls and let’s have some fun.
Things wrap up with Barney revealing he let porno Ted use the apartment for his latest project (LANCE HARDWOOD: SEXARCHITECT starring Ted Mosby – you gotta admit, it’s got a certain ring to it). Yeah, probably time to get a new couch.
