Dan (Kevin McKidd) is a very busy man, in tonight’s episode of JOURNEYMAN. First off, he isn’t too pleased about Katie’s (Gretchen Egolf) decision to go back to work as a television journalist. Remember, they had been talking about having another baby, but what with the possibility of Dan disappearing at any given moment, Katie isn’t sure whether a baby is a good idea. I have to say, I agree with her. I mean, who wants to have a second child with a man who was sent flying back to the past while he was alone with the kid you already have. It’s a pretty scary proposition, if you ask me. Besides, something tells me there may be some unresolved feelings between Katie and Dan’s brother, whom she dated for several years before marrying his brother.
In fact, those unresolved feelings may be why Jack (Reed Diamond) refuses to stop digging into Dan’s odd behavior. Besides, Jack’s a cop, so I guess snooping is in his nature. Still, I get the picture there is more to it than that, and with Dan running into his former fiancé, Livia (Mood Bloodgood), every time he time-travels, I’d say a little flirting between his brother and wife may not be as offensive as it would be under normal circumstances. All of this leads me to believe there may be some shuffling around of the couples at some point during the season. That is if it makes it through the whole season. JOURNEYMAN still has some problems to contend with; namely the fact that they still bite off more than they can chew for each episode. I mean, even with all that going on Dan has to travel back to the past to save a witness’s life.

Dan’s journey begins tonight with a trip back to 1999, when Ricky Martin’s “Livin La Vida Loca” was number one on the charts, and Jack was working the beat as a street cop. It seems as if the witness Dan is meant to save saw some type of nefarious goings on in the gang world. Not a pretty bunch to have after you, which is probably why the powers that be felt it necessary to put Dan on the case. Good thing too, because the first day out Dan had to save him from an assassination. Unfortunately, that put him right in the line of fire. So now it appears Dan is stuck in 1999 to save himself. That seems pretty unfair, considering Dan’s whole life has been turned upside down trying to save other people. But Dan has more than just the past to worry about, his brother found the money he had stashed from the Dillon McLean heist. Now he’s like a dog with a bone, where his brother’s strange behavior is concerned.
Now I ask you, how do you save yourself from being gunned down by a gang in 1999 and being caught by your brother in 2007? At least Dan has Livia to confide in. As usual, she has followed him to his latest job. At some point her whole story will have to be explained, but I guess that’s for another time, because Dan still has to save himself from those nasty gang bangers. Things start to get even stranger than usual, when he has to use his 2007 body to save his 1999 body. I know, it’s confusing, but this is JOURNEYMAN people, and we all know it isn’t the easiest show to follow. Thank goodness Dan was hitting the bottle pretty hard back then, because how do you explain something like that? The one good thing about that night was the fact that it was that horrible experience that brought Dan and Katie together. So maybe everything does happen for a reason.
That being said, Dan couldn’t get together with Katie unless he showed up at the high stakes poker game she saved him from. With the bundle of money he used back in 1999 being stolen, Livia was sent hurling back to 2007 to grab the cash McLean gave Dan. It’s a good thing she did too, because Jack found out the money was from the bank robbery and stormed over to confront Katie about it. Of course there was egg all over his face when he found out it was gone. Time traveling is far beyond his scope of imagination, so I think Katie and Dan dodged that bullet … at least for tonight. As for the gang bangers that were after Dan, well they got a little sloppy and tried to shoot him in a hospital, so they were caught. So, chalk another one up for our time-traveling hero.
