Secrets galore were revealed this week on CANE.
Frank’s feelings of resentment for Alex vanished when he learned that the Samuels family had murdered his younger sister, and that it was Alex who had the man responsible killed. Alex learned that the Samuels had been buying up Cuban land through shell companies, as a way to get a head start in securing the U.S. Ethanol subsidy. It offered a key opportunity to rat the Samuels out to the U.S. Attorney General.
Alex also learned that Pancho had been less than pleased with his performance as CEO of Duque industries. Pancho felt Alex needed to focus more on both day-to-day business and his family, and forgoe the vendetta against the Samuels before it destroyed him. With Alex it was in one ear and out the other; ethanol was the future, and the Samuels were getting buried under it.
On the second tier Katie Vega learned that her “boyfriend” Nick had been taping their sexcapades, leading her uncle, Henry, to beat the pretty off of Nick’s face. Ellis Samuels learned of her father’s role in death of Frank’s sister. She was disgusted, but it did her little good in reconciling her relationship with Frank. Finally, when the Samuels’ P.I. visited her at church, Isabel learned of Alex’s hand in the Quinones murder. The P.I., in turn, learned not to mess with the Duque family, as Alex and Santo ran up on him and put guns to his head, threatening him to stay away.
(Alicia Keys also gave great performances, both singing and acting.)
With the way its going CANE might’ve been better slotted in the daytime lineup, alongside all the rest of the soap operas. If any of the show’s producers can hear, DO AWAY WITH THAT HORRIBLE OPENING SEQUENCE, the one where Alex does voice-over about ‘the blessing and curse’ of loving his family. This is CBS, not Telemundo, and the show is called CANE, not ‘Cheese.’ Oh and Lina Esco? Take some acting lessons sweety. Katie Vega needs to be more than the second hottest face on the show. (Paola Turbay keeps top prize for that.)
1408 — Old-School Stephen King Frightfest
King is the BEST, I own every book he wrote, including Bachman books. The only writer who came close was Clive Barker, but even he got left in the dust. I am so waiting for this movie!! I was devastated when he announced his retirement from writing, but he came back just as strong as ever. I have fun looking for his little cameos in the movies, he also has a sense of humor. And his books transend easily into movies.
