When Michael (Jason Isaacs) says he isn’t ready for parenthood he isn’t kidding. This week he sends Collin (Brian F. O’Byrne) to take his girlfriend Kath (Tina Benko) to the clinic to get an abortion. Collin tries to be the nice guy even telling Kath she has an option and can have this baby if she wants. I like seeing Collin go against the cousin he’s been idolizing and standing up for something he believes in. Regardless, Kath tells him she’s going through with it and he supports her because he was sent to do a job & that’s what he’ll do.
Besides being a heartless bastard this week, Michael continues to pay off the debts to the Italians by being apart of a mob hit. He’s been stationed as support in the hit. He’s supposed to pick up a hired killer, take him to a house, wait for him to kill the mark and then take the killer back to his hotel. Every last part of this guy drives Michael nuts. And I’m not really that surprised as the killers a type-a sociopath and weirdo. He says some profoundly bizarre things to Michael that include: explaining how homosexuals and transvestites and the least gratifying to kill because they will never give you the satisfaction of begging and screaming, masturbating in the marks house to kill time & beating the marks wife and eventually killing her for showing up during his hit. Michael desperately tries to figure out why this guy is getting whacked, but never gets any answers. After the wife & the mark are dead and he’s dropping the hired killer off at his hotel the killer taunts him with the knowledge about why he was hired to kill the mark. Then he tells Michael he will never tell him because it’s too satisfying watching him squirm. Maybe I should become a psychopathic killer cause outside of the murdering these are the same psychological tactics I use on people. Amazing.
Meanwhile, Tommy’s (Jason Clarke) in jeopardy of losing his re-election. The Hispanic members of the Hill have come out in droves and the mayors decision not to support him is about to cost him the election. Regardless of the fact that Michael has his guys working to get people to vote Tommy’s needs a miracle. Eventually, he turns to smarmy tactics and sends his sister to the lower end and tells her to challenge any voter that is on a list that he gives her. None of those voters know it, but they can cast a stand-by vote that will be counted once their residency has been established, because of this Tommy narrowly wins the re-election.
In the first half of this episode it seems that things between Tommy & his wife are mellowing out. The two are working together on election day and Tommy even tells her he loves her. They almost seem genuine. Almost that is, hilariously enough, the night of the re-election, Tommy’s mistress and wife are both with him to celebrate. Eileen (Annabeth Gish) notices Tommy’s mistress wearing his boutonnière as they all wait for the elevator. Like a true nutcase, Eileen puts two-and-two together and deducts that pious Tommy is schtooping this bitchy looking blonde and she cackles wildly making Tommy uncomfortable and his mistress visibly upset. I guess today Eileen is my hero.
