Well, another season of CURB is in the books, and I think all die-hard fans were left scratching their heads after Sunday’s finale. What did we learn? That Larry and Cheryl may be split up for good. That the Greenes’ daughter Sami is a woman now. That Larry may or may not have a gerbil stuck up his ass. And best of all, that we might have another season of Leon Black!
In this week’s season finale, the Blacks announce that their house is ready and they’re moving out. Larry sees this as a mixed blessing. While he thinks they’re all kind of a pain, you can tell he misses the company – especially with Cheryl still dating the “No Fly Zone” underwear designer.
Adding to Larry’s troubles are the rumor that he has a gerbil up his ass (he disspells those rumors, although he admits he does have a “tickle” in his anus). That can’t be good for anybody.
In preparation for Sami’s bat mitzvah, Larry gets a date with a fellow patient at the gastroenterologist (they were both there for a “check-up”). But it doesn’t go well, as she wants to leave a bad movie early, but he wants to go down with the ship. Knowing that Cheryl will be there with a date, he takes a foxy looking Loretta (Vivica A. Fox). As they would say on Seinfeld, yada yada yada, sparks fly and Larry and Loretta end up getting together. That leads to the season’s final scenes, a sequence of Larry and Loretta – in bed together, Larry going to Darryl’s soccer game and being a jackass to the ref, and a hilarious cut to Susie (Susie Hessman) yelling at Larry, followed by Loretta stepping in and telling her off. Classic.
The scene (and season) ends with the cut-out of a greeting card with Larry and his new “family,” that reads: Happy Holidays from Larry and the Blacks.
So, what does this mean? Did Larry and Loretta get married? Are the Blacks not going home to their hurricane-ravaged home after all? And, most importantly, are we getting another season of Leon (his classically quotable line for the week: “Gerbil got in the elevator, hit 'up' and went up your asshole?”)? Only time will tell.
And while I don’t want to go so far as to say Leon and the Blacks saved the season, I will say it certainly wouldn’t have been the same without them.
