Finally, the episode I’ve been looking forward to since the beginning of the season. Not to say the rest of the episodes have been chop liver, but I loved last season’s “Five Years Later,” and this week’s “Four Months Ago” was in the same vein.
At long last, we find out how Nathan (Adrian Pasdar) healed, how Peter (Milo Ventimiglia) ended up in Ireland with amnesia, the lame way DL (Leonard Roberts) died, and exactly what sent wonder twins Maya and Alejandro (Dania Ramirez and Shalim Ortiz) on the run.
To be honest, the only story I was interested in was Peter’s and Nathan’s. Thankfully, most of the episode centered on them. Like Hiro (Masi Oka) was the driving force for saving the world last season, it seems the torch has been passed to Peter this season.
In the last issue of Entertainment Weekly, HEROES creator Tim Kring wrote an apology to fans of the show. One of his self-proclaimed mistakes was waiting too long to get to the “world-saving stakes.” I must agree. It took us less than three episodes to find out New York City would be demolished last season. This season, it was until last week that we found out the fate of the world. Now that I know, though, the show has re-peaked my interest, and I’m getting that same kind of tingly excitement I had through most of last season.

What Kring failed to apologize for was Niki (Ali Larter). Seriously, does anyone like her? I’m sure someone does, but that someone is definitely not I. She has a great power, but most of the time she’s dealing with her split personality disorder. I’m over it. Done. She needs to get better or get dead. And while I’m on the subject, who decided to kill DL in such an awful way? I know that his death helped push Niki to seek help, but did a guy with such a special ability have to be taken down my a drug addict in a nightclub?
From a blond hero who irritates me to a blond hero that fascinates me. Kristen Bell as Elle is possibly some of the best casting I’ve yet to see on HEROES. The first time we met her back in Ireland, I knew she was a little crazy, but to see her in full sociopathic glory is truly marvelous. Maury Parkman may be the nightmare man, but I think Elle could cause some serious nightmares of her own. I remember thinking that Sylar and Maya would make for a deliciously lethal couple, but I think putting Sylar and Elle together could make for an explosive match. (Sorry, the pun was too easy to resist.)
Another possibly lethal match is Kensei, now Adam, (David Anders) and Peter. I don’t exactly know what Adam has got planned when he says he wants to save the world, but it really can’t be anything particularly good. The man was scorned four hundred years ago and then locked up for thirty years. I’m sure that even if he wants to save the world, it can wait until he kills off a few people first. And after saving Nathan’s life, Adam has got the gullible right where he needs him.
I can’t wait to see who’s on what side when it all comes down to it. I also can’t wait to find out exactly what “it” is.
