Michael Caffee (Jason Issacs) again dominates the screen in this week’s episode of BROTHERHOOD. After setting up Freddie Cork (Kevin Chapman) and getting him arrested Michael’s becomes even busier as he teams up with the U.S. Attorney, Ellis Franklin, in order to get rid of any and all of his competition, including Nozzoli (John Fiore), the Italian crime boss. Declan (Ethan Embry) is completely butt hurt over the fact that his work for Freddie Cork is no longer important and unnecessary so he decides to go to the FBI to snitch on his boss. The FBI sends him home telling him to STFU basically. Once he’s back on the job Ellis takes him aside and tells him he knows about his meeting with the feds. He then assigns Declan his new job—he’s Michael Caffee’s caseworker. Hilariously, Michael immediately asks Ellis if he high because Declan is a grade A screw up. Declan is personally offended by everything happening and he decides to tell Michael that Freddie had the hit put on him. Michael says he already knew that and Declan freaks and reports this to Freddie.
Like his brother, Tommy’s (Jason Clarke) having a few of his own problems. Eileen (Annabeth Gish) tells Tommy she wants to work outside the house, that she’s looking for something more to validate her existence. Tommy acts hurt that raising his children and running his house isn’t enough for Eileen, but she tells him that his sister Mary Kate has set her up with some volunteer work at Social Services. Tommy’s also getting razzed at work because he’s been running Judd Fitzgerald’s Parks & Recs meetings. After the other members of the meeting tell him he should just take over Tommy visits Judd proposing that this happens and Judd can run the meetings from behind the scenes. This infuriates Judd and he decides to show up to the next meeting. Nothing could have gone worse as his dementia sets in and he acts like a tard that’s eaten too much chocolate and goes on a rampage.
Colin (Brian F. O’Byrne) takes this as a personal offense and he goes to Rose to tell her what Tommy’s up to. When this doesn’t work and Tommy allows Judd to make an ass of himself Colin takes up his problem with his cousin. Tommy doesn’t understand why it’s such a big deal to Colin until Colin blurts out that Judd’s his father and he’s got a limited amount of time to learn as much as he can about him. Now, Tommy has a heart and is a sap so he feels terribly. He takes Colin and the two go over to Judd’s and they talk about the things that Judd likes. It’s almost touching except for the fact that I have no heart and I don’t even care.
Speaking of heart, Eileen’s job with Social Services proves to be more emotionally tolling than she ever expected. She works with a victims unit, which basically helps people that have nowhere else to turn and absolutely no resources. One woman in particular catches Eileen’s attention. Her son has been shot and killed and the woman needs help claiming the body and arranging a funeral. The women vomits on Eileen for absolutely no reason and the entire exchange between the two of them is moving. Eileen gets the woman her son’s body, so she thinks, until they hand over a bag of ashes, the remains of her 8-year-old son. The woman takes them and leaves, but Eileen takes it very hard. She returns home later and Tommy gives her hell over being late until he realizes that she’s been crying. He takes her into his arms and says she doesn’t have to go back, but she tells him she has to. It’s sort of nice watching the two of them operate like husband and wife.
