ATONEMENT: Fantastic Setup, Ok Payoff

ATONEMENT, adapted from Ian McEwan’s bestselling 2001 novel, tells the tragic story of two lovers torn apart by lies, war, and a young girl’s gross misconceptions. And of course that infamous paper-thin green dress accented by a diamond-encrusted bracelet, worn (quite well) by Keira Knightley.

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER -- "The Platinum Rule"

After a week off so we could all go picket with the writers in New York (or watch a rerun because they ran out of funny jokes) the HIMYM crew is back to its zany antics: namely, making up rules for dating, then explaining them through flashbacks and witty one-liners. Good thing the writers left a few good ones in the pantry before jumping ship for the picket lines.

AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL -- "The Girls Go To The Great Wall"

All I can say about the most recent episode of AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL is: ding dong the witch is dead. It seemed all episode as if they were setting up Jenah to go home, which to be quite honest, would be fine, since I never understood the point of her anyway. But in a nice twist, it turns out there’s no room for nasty Bianca at the top.

JOURNEYMAN -- "Home By Another Way"

Life must go on; at least that’s how the saying goes. But, how do you move on from a traumatizing experience like the one Katie (Gretchen Egolf) had? After all, being held at gunpoint by a crazy man who wants you to make him lunch because his mommy never did is a little disconcerting, to say the least.

THE GODFATHER: A Classic For Good Reason

I have an admission to make: Up until now, I have never seen THE GODFATHER. Despite being an avowed movie fan, I have managed to miss Francis Ford Coppola’s classic repeatedly over the years. Partly, this is because I managed to catch Scorsese’s take on Mob films in the 1990s—GOODFELLAS and CASINO—and then later THE DEPARTED, and didn’t feel like I needed more Mob in my viewing life.
