I am all about unconventional love stories about as much as I am into really great acting—amazingly enough, this Oscar winning film has both of these elements and now I am depressed when I start thinking about the current state of “filmmaking”. Sadly, I am not so upset by this that I am actually going to do anything about it other than point out most movies I see these days are lame carbon copies of everything else ever made. Welcome to the present, we’re a league of carbon copies, a billion boring bodies.

The first still from the upcoming
PUNISHER: WARZONE has arrived! The pic is of star Ray Stevenson (ROME) looking every bit the character of Frank Castle, toting some big guns and a badass look, as he lays down the
bad guys. As they say, the proof will be in the punishment. And so far WARZONE has a lot to proof when it’s released on September 12, 2008. Rant back and let us know what you think about the picture inside.

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, and in tonight’s episode of BOSTON LEGAL, we get a perfect example of that saying. It appears as if Shirley’s (Candice Bergen) granddaughter has a spirit and mouth as big as her grandmother’s. Unfortunately, the granddaughter ends up getting herself kicked out of school because of her determination to stand up and demand to be heard.

Son of a gun, that Boulet (Anthony Anderson) ain’t too bad a singer. Surprisingly, he does a fair job with Wilson Pickett’s “In the Midnight Hour,” at least until FAS gets the call to go tactical on somebody’s ass. Once Cobb (Cole Hauser), who isn’t big on the karaoke tip, joins the gang and rolls with the assault rifles, they arrive at a storehouse of Mardi Gras props, where they find a couple of corpses on the floor and a homeless guy sleeping in a float.

THE SIMPSONS, “Midnight Towboy”: Here’s a shock; Fox is running a buttload of reruns again. This week, it’s KING OF THE HILL that’s posting the new episode, but at least THE SIMPSONS rerun is from this season. Homer’s on a roll this week; after he spills the last bottle of milk, he drives all the way to Guidopolis to get some more, and ends up on a wild towing adventure.

The first teaser poster for M. Night Shyamalan’s (THE SIXTH SENSE, THE VILLAGE) next film THE HAPPENING is now
online. The movie stars Mark Wahlberg as a man who goes on the run with his family when an environmental crisis threatens humanity’s very existence. John Leguizamo and Zooey Deschanel are also set to star.

As much as producers and network executives try and muck around with reality TV shows, they can’t truly eliminate all suspense from the penultimate episode as so often happens with scripted shows as the season ends. The second to last episode of THE BIGGEST LOSER Season 4 was packed with drama and a huge upset. As well as the longest name of a product placement ad and clues to the whereabouts of Caroline Rhea, the disappeared former host of the show.
