JOURNEYMAN -- "The Hanged Man"

By Jennifer Larson

Things are not going well for Dan (Kevin McKidd) and his family. They may have been able to weather the storm of the crazy man Dan sent to prison, but it’s a whole other kettle of fish when your own child goes missing. And the worst part about it for Dan is the fact that he has no control over when he goes hurtling through time. On tonight’s installment of     JOURNEYMAN, Dan is sent to rescue a mother and son in an RV hanging from a cliff. Now, it has to be a pretty empowering feeling to save people’s lives, but when he returns and finds his own family in turmoil, things don’t look quit as rosy. And talk about your guilt; a clumsy mistake made by Dan is the cause of some pretty freaky consequences.

Meanwhile, Katie also has to deal with her sister coming into town. Normally, that may be a happy occasion, but how do you explain a husband popping in and out of the house at the oddest moments? At least Dan and Katie have Jack’s (Reed Diamond) support … finally. Now that Jack knows what the real situation is, he’s finally given up on trying to convince Dan that he’s headed down the path of destruction. Really, the whole intervention was sweet, but extremely inappropriate for what was really going on in Dan’s life. Besides, Jack has some heavy duty issues of his own right now, namely the fact that his girlfriend of four months just advised him that she’s pregnant. But, it appears that this news surprises Katie and her sister even more than it did Jack. Apparently one of the reasons Jack and Katie didn’t make it as a couple was the fact that he didn’t seem to keen on starting a family. Before the Vassar boys start bringing new life into their family, they may want to figure out what’s going on in theirs.

Now that Jack is in on the big family secret, he’s using his pull as a police officer to try and untangle the web of mystery his brother finds himself in. For starters, what did that rogue FBI agent know, and how did he figure out there were people out there traveling through space and time? Well, Jack hasn’t solved that part of the puzzle yet, but he did find a picture of a young Dan with that scientist that got a hold of him when he was on one of his missions. This guy definitely knows more than he’s saying, and when Dan pays him a little visit to find out more … you guessed it, he clammed up. But thanks to the spooky psychic Katie’s sister employed, we know a bit more than we did before. After doing Dan’s birth chart, the psychic found out that he was born on a very mystical day; one that was so powerful it had only happened once before in history. I’ll give you two guesses at who was born on the other day … Livia (Moon Bloodgood).

And it’s a good thing Dan has somebody help him through his new calling, because tonight he really screwed up. Well, it actually wasn’t his fault, I mean you can’t blame the guy for losing his 2007 digital camera in the past; he was, after all, saving a mother and son from crashing over a cliff. Unfortunately, a common place digital camera from 2007 was reason enough for murder in 1984. Cutting edge technology is worth millions, and getting your hands on it can make you a billionaire and we all know the love of money is the root of all evil. After picking up Dan’s lost camera, the kid he saved decided to try and sell it to help his mother out with her medical expenses. What he didn’t realize was how competitive the tech market is, and he ended up getting killed for his find. But that isn’t even the worst of it. Because the past was changed, Dan came back to a very disturbing present.

Now here’s were things get a little confusing, so try and stay with me. When something in the past changes, it alters the course of pretty much everybody’s lives, and that includes their sex lives. I won’t get into the details, but when Dan came home he found out his son was never conceived, but a daughter was. The worst part of it was the fact that Dan was the only one who even knew he ever had a son. Of course, this meant another trip to the past was in the cards. Not only did Dan have to try and save the kid from the past, he also had to save his own son. As exciting as all of that sounds, it really leaves little to the imagination. I mean, I think you can all figure out that Dan prevailed. The coolest part was watching the killer, which turned out to be the boss of the mother Dan saved, get shot by her own goons when Dan and Livia got scooped up my the mysterious time-traveling light. But before Dan got whisked away, he made sure to destroy the evil camera that started the whole mess.

This one turned out to be a heart-warming episode, but I’m eager to find out more about the scientist from Dan’s past. Let’s just hope this series makes it far enough to sort it all out.

SURVIVOR: CHINA -- "Sherea Graduates Off The Show"
I just finished watching Ken Burns" The War. In it he features a guy who was forced to endure the Bataan Death March and 4 years in a Japanese prison camp. I thought of him when you mentioned the "family reunion" episode. They way these people react never fails to crack me up. They act as if they've just done four years at Luzon instead of two weeks with a camera crew.I also wonder if Burnett has closed the Johnny Fairplay "dead grandmother" loophole.
