WHAT THE BLEEP DO WE KNOW?: Inspiring and Entertaining

This movie is essentially about questioning reality and then positing a spiritual possibility based on quantum physics. Largely successful on the first part, less so on the spiritual aspects, nonetheless this small movie asks large questions and makes some radical thinking extremely accessible. I found it entertaining, provocative and even inspiring. And I’m one cynical doofus.

Luke Skywalker Shows Some Joker-On-Joker Love

MTV news recently caught up with legendary sci-fi icon Mark Hamill (a.k.a. “Luke Skywalker,”) to solicit the actor’s opinion on Heath Ledger’s much buzzed-about performance as the Joker in the upcoming film BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT. For those who don’t know, Hamill is in a unique position to put in his two-cents on Ledger’s performance. The actor is credited by many fans for (literally) breathing life into the best on-screen version of the Joker to date, via his voice work on Batman: The Animated Series, which remains the DEFINITIVE take on Batman, (as far as comic book nerds like yours truly are concerned.)

PROJECT RUNWAY -- "Eye Candy"

Oh man, I can actually admit I was pretty sure that this was Jillian’s last week with the good contestants of PROJECT RUNWAY.  Here is this weeks mega catch, Tim wakes everyone up at 6am and takes the designers to the Hershey’s store in Time Square.  Once in the store he announces that the designers have exactly FIVE minutes to gather up as much crap as they can to design into an outfit and then they will have all day and only that one-day to construct their candy themed outfit.  Everyone but Jillian decides to use fabric from plush candy toys.  Jillian decides to use Twizzlers™ and she does not anticipate the fact that working with food is an unnecessary headache.

Critical Look: THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON

One of my favorite directors hands down is David Fincher, the director of such darkly lavish films as FIGHT CLUB, THE GAME, and last year’s grossly underrated ZODIAC. Oh, and ALIEN 3, but we forgive him for that one. I was recently surprised to learn that Fincher’s next project will be an adaptation of the 1922 short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald, entitled THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON.

THE WATER HORSE: LEGEND OF THE DEEP: Cute, You Know... For Kids

Someone answer me this, why in the hell is it that stupid children’s movies always have stupidly long titles that do nothing but make the movie sound even dumber?  I honestly have no idea why children’s flicks always do that—it doesn’t make the movie sound smart or even more appealing, just dumber than first expected.  Whatever, this movie is basically the retelling of E.T. but poorly, and with a mythical creature instead of an alien.  I guess we’re all on the same page now, awesome.

WGA Says "No" To Golden Globes

The WGA, which has been on strike since Nov. 5, announced this week that they would not make any deals that would allow network NBC to broadcast this year’s Golden Globe Awards, which were scheduled for Jan. 13. The Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. and Dick Clark Productions, who own and operate the annual awards ceremony, had been pressuring the WGA to strike some sort of interim deal, which would allow the picket line to be crossed so that writers could spin the speeches and jokes that Golden Globes relies on. The WGA’s continued resistance has the Globes now facing an uncertain future.

THE ORPHANAGE: Spooky and Good Looking

At the beginning of this movie the screen dazzled me with everything I like to see:  good looking people, good looking places and well, in short GOOD LOOKING.  Immediately, I start having fantasies of moving to Spain in a mansion on the beach with a cute Spanish boyfriend and I am in bliss.  By the end of this movie I am ready to drop kick any children that speak Spanish.  In short, THE SPANISH ARE TERRIFYING.  My actual though is that the Spanish are f*cking terrifying, but they won’t even let me use that word here, so what’s the point?  The point is that it really is scary enough to use that expletive.
