He hasn’t been done with
HELLBOY II for five minutes, yet famed Mexican director Guillermo Del Toro already has his sights set on another mythical monster: Mary Shelly’s FRANKENSTEIN.
Del Toro recently confessed to
MTV news that he has “always been” interested in lending his signature style of drama-meets-horror to a re-imagined version of the classic monster flick. He went on to say that before the current WGA
strike, he had been working intently on pre-production for FRANKENSTEIN, outlining notes and early drafts of his version of Shelly’s tale. With the WGA strike still going strong, pre-production on FRANKENSTEIN has been scaled down to early drawings of the monster Del Toro hopes to bring to the screen.
With PAN’S LAYBRINTH, the Oscar-nominated director has already proven he can craft a film that features monsters both human and supernatural—so bringing the tale of the insidious Dr. Frankenstein and his abominable creation to the screen would be a logical step for his rising career.
You can watch the full interview with Guillermo Del Toro below. In the meantime, rant back to us with your thoughts on the famed director’s chances of making FRANKENSTEIN a monster hit.
Premonition — Trying Too Hard Gets You Nowhere
woulda shoulda coulda...but it didn't. Great idea--can you stop something from happening before it does. Wouldn't we all love to have stopped 9-11 or the JFK assassination? Unfortunately this film doesn't even come close to that kind of compelling drama. It is the usual stuff that makes bad Hollywood films bad: a script that was not ready and a production that was rushed. Too many inconsistencies, too many scenes that made no sense, and characters that are hard to care about. Bullock was just OK in this, which is saying a lot for her. Too bad...I really wanted to like this film.
