We recently reported a
rumor that a particular scene had been shot, which would be shared between upcoming Marvel Comics films
IRON MAN and
THE INCREDIBLE HULK.
Comic Book Movie is now reporting that such a scene has indeed been shot, but it will only be featured in THE INCREDIBLE HULK, when it premieres in June.
The crossover scene will involve General “Thunderbolt” Ross meeting with Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.). While this crossover might seem unimportant, consider that IRON MAN will also feature a scene where Tony Stark meets with Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), the covert operative who, in the comic book world, worked with Stark to create THE AVENGERS—a superhero team whose ranks include Iron Man and the Hulk. Conspiracy theory? Or is Marvel indeed setting the stage for a super-group movie to rival DC comics’ upcoming JUSTICE LEAGUE flick?
The director of IRON MAN, Jon Favreau, recently added fuel to THE AVENGERS fire, telling
MTV news that he would not only like to see an AVENGERS movie made, but that he’d be willing to direct it.
“I think it’s a good idea if you use the characters established in the other franchises that then come together for an event.” [Favreau said,] “I don’t think [Marvel] would do it like they’re doing ‘Justice League’ where it’s a whole different set of actors and a whole different take on the world.”
Yeah, like we’ll see the day when all these big-name superhero actors ever come together for a movie. Don’t hold your breath Jon. Regardless, I’m digging how Marvel is taking steps to establish their characters as being part of one large universe. If they were smart though, they would shun Daredevil,
Ghost Rider and the Fantastic Four. Those missteps are best to be forgotten
