A reporter over at
Collider recently bumped into John Singleton and took the opportunity to get some details on how the director is faring with his upcoming A-TEAM
reboot. Never one to shy away from the press, Singleton’s responses were peppered with some exciting tidbits:
“A-Team is going. It’s not a comic movie farce like Starsky and Hutch, it’s kind of in the tradition of the 80’s action pictures, the man’s movies like Die Hard, Predator, Commando, or even Lethal Weapon… The action is very serious, but there is humor. That’s what we are going for. I don’t know who is in the cast yet… but I do know that the only person I want right now is…Woody Harrelson to play Murdock, the guy who is crazy but he’s kind of real smart, a jack of all trades.”
I cut the quote down a bit, but if you read the full interview, you’ll see where Singleton takes several stabs at Ice Cube, in response to the rapper-actor’s recent (premature?)
assertion that he would, and could, take on the role of B.A. Baracus, the character made famous by Mr. T in the original TV series. On the other hand, Woody Harrison as Murdock seems like a casting match made in heaven, and shows that Singleton really does have his mind right for this A-TEAM update. I sure do love my ‘80’s man movies.’
Additional info garnered from the director revealed that the A-TEAM reboot will likely be approached as a franchise, and that whatever actors are ultimately cast in the titular roles will have the option to sign on for additional films. Walk first, Singleton my son, then run.
Does Woody Harrelson sound like the new Murdock for our day and age? Rant back and let us know.
