This week on PRISON BREAK, a whole lot of nothing happened. Well, not really. Stuff happened, but nothing I really cared about.
Lincoln (Dominic Purcell) buys a bomb. Exactly where he keeps coming up with the money to do things, I have no idea. Sucre (Amaury Nolasco) gets himself in hot water again. Michael (Wentworth Miller) and Mahone (William Fitchner) actually work together. Whistler (Chris Vance) spills his life story. And someone dies! Not the someone I was hoping for, but it’s still a step in the right direction.
At the end of last week’s episode, Sammy (Laurence Mason) gets a package from the outside—a gun. This week, he uses it to finally usurp Lachero’s (Robert Wisdom) power, leaving the big man hiding in corners while Sammy tells all the prisoners he wants Scofield’s head. Meanwhile, Mahone, Michael and Whistler are in the tunnel trying to dig their escape route.
For some unknown reason, probably because he’s afraid of being left behind, Whistler starts spilling his life story. He is a fisherman, but he’s a hired hand for The Company. They told him to kill Michael, but he didn’t listen. He’s just a pawn in their game just like Mahone and Michael. The other men don’t really care what he’s babbling about, and since they don’t care, I find myself not caring either. I know there’s more to Whistler than he’s letting on, and I’m pretty sure Michael knows it too.
Back to Lachero. Without his power, he looks to the ever-present T-Bag (Robert Knepper) for help. T-Bag comes up with a plan to have Bellick (Wade Williams) challenge Sammy to a chicken foot fight. In fact, to my amusement, the phrase “chicken foot Sammy” is said a lot, and all I could think about were those new sandwiches from Quizno’s. Mmm, don’t you want a chicken foot sandwich now?
Sorry, back to the show.
Of course, we all know that Bellick can’t beat Sammy. T-Bag is asking for the fight for one of two reasons: he wants to see Bellick dead, or he trying to help out Lachero so he can be in on the escape plan. My money is on the latter.
Bellick loses badly, but to my dismay, he’s not killed. Right before the fatal blow, Sammy’s crew says they’ve found Scofield. There’s a standoff at the door of the tunnel ending with Sammy getting buried alive because Michael forgets to mention that he purposely removed the bolt that was keeping the hole stable. Oops. Oh well, Sammy and his crew are dead. Lachero is back in power, and the guys have to figure out what to do about the cave in.
On the outside, Sucre has set up an appointment for Lincoln to meet with some shady guy who sells bombs. He takes Sofia (Danay Garcia) with him to translate, but she first asks for Linc’s word that Whistler will be kept safe. Linc reminds her that Whistler’s a big fat liar, but she doesn’t care.
After the transaction goes down, Lincoln does something very out-of-the-ordinary. He makes a nice gesture towards Sofia—basically promising that he’ll take her to Paris if Whistler won’t. Instantly, her mind is made up. Whistler is a bastard, and Lincoln is the man for her. Well, that’s what I got from the lovelorn look on her face and the fact that she threw all of Whistler’s clothes on the floor. Good thing she did, too, because in the back of the closet hidden in a duffel bag is a mysterious locked briefcase. What’s in it? I can’t wait to find out.
With the bomb in hand, Lincoln and Sucre carry out the first stage of their plan. Sucre calls up Susan B. to give her some pertinent information. When he gets in the car, he sticks the bomb under the seat. This is when Susan goes ballistic. Not over the bomb under her seat, but over the lies Sucre is feeding her. She knows she’s been set up because, like all evil women on television, she’s no dummy. But Sucre is, a big one, because he wired the money she gave him to his beloved Mary Cruz.
Now Susan knows where Sucre’s loved ones live, and now Sucre must give up all of Lincoln’s plans to keep them safe. Will the man ever learn? How many times has his ability to think been clouded by this Mary Cruz?
So the episode ends with an unopened briefcase in Sofia’s apartment, a bomb in Susan’s car, and a caved-in escape route in the prison which all add up to a bunch of beginnings to something interesting. The escape happens in two weeks. It better be good.
