CHOKE, the upcoming film based on best-selling author Chuck Palahnuik’s 2001 novel of the same name, was recently
previewed at the Sundance Film Festival, earning some positive reviews. We here at Critics Rant have the first clips from the film, which premiered on the Sundance channel this week, along with a brief interview with the film’s director, actor Clark Gregg (THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE).
CHOKE was made for a frugal $3.5 million budget, and has a low-budget look to it that I think perfectly suits the novel’s tone. Sam Rockwell will portray the main character, Victor Mancini, a sex addict who cares for his demented mother (Angelica Huston) by day, and spends his evenings purposely choking on food in expensive restaurants, in order to form parasitic bonds with the rich patrons who “save” him. From the clip, you can tell that the book’s outlandish satire and sexually explicit overtones will not be scaled down for the film—and I wouldn’t want it any other way.
Take a look at the video and rant back to us whether you’ll be following CHOKE from the page to the screen.
