MTV News recently caught up with Oscar-winner William Hurt at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, and took the opportunity to solicit the actor’s opinion on both his role as General “Thunderbolt Ross” in the upcoming INCREDIBLE HULK reboot, and his rumored crossover
scene with another Marvel superhero, IRON MAN.
"I have a scene with Iron Man, with Robert Downey Jr.," the Oscar-winning actor told MTV News Friday at the Sundance Film Festival. "It's a funky scene… I know it's weird [to work with a character from another movie], and to know it's a device. We did something; I don't know what that's going to be like [to watch]."
Hurt didn’t stop there, but went on to drop some major plot spoilers (which you can read
here) while simultaneously lauding director Louis Leterrier (THE TRANSPORTER), and writers Edward Norton (yes, the actor starring in the film) and Zak Penn’s hard work, distinguishing this new installment from that abysmal HULK film directed by Ang Lee.
"I saw [Ang Lee’s] film. This is, stylistically, a completely different film. They just don't relate… [this film] has to do with the fact that [Banner's] conscience still exists in a body that is a manifestation of power and is greater than his own ability to control it.. That's the central metaphor for all of us, that we're learning these powers — technological powers, whatever — that we don't know if we have enough conscience to control [them] in a wise way yet. I believe in ‘Hulk.’ Absolutely. That's why I did the movie…"
An endorsement like that from an actor of Hurt’s caliber is nothing to sneeze at. Could it be that INCREDIBLE HULK will be that rare case of a film franchise getting it right the second time around? Or are you still skeptical that the not-so-jolly green giant can dust himself off and rise to cinematic glory? Rant back and let us know.
