Ain’t It Cool News recently reported on some rumors that a BATTLESTAR GALACTICA prequel, entitled “Caprica,” may be edging closer to production. Allegedly a script for the prequel was completed some time ago, only to be left on the shelf, gathering dust.
However, with the WGA strike still going strong, studios are beginning to revisit their stockpiles of forgotten scripts, hoping to find new programming, ready for production. A script like “Caprica,” which ties in directly with an established and popular series, might suddenly become an invaluable asset.
“I just got a call from NBC-Universal SciFi Channel VP Mark Stern says in the current, sci-fi issue of TV guide. “They want us to take another look at [‘Battlestar Galatica’ prequel ‘Caprica’].”
However, before you BG fans start jumping with joy, best to consider some statements by GALATICA producer Ron D. Moore, who recently spoke to a fan about any current plans to get “Caprica” into production.
“Despite the rumors to the contrary, there’s still no word on ‘Caprica.’ I have yet to get a call from the network about it, and if they’re really considering it, they’re keeping it to themselves.”
Bummer. Would you care for a little BATTLESTAR GALACTICA back story to fill your empty airwaves? Rant back and let us know.
