THE EYE: Is It Worth Seeing?

THE EYE is the latest Japanese horror film given a glossy American makeover. It’s not the best of the bunch (THE RING), it’s not the worst of the bunch (ONE MISSED CALL), but is it worth a ten dollar movie ticket? I’ll let you be the judge.

ELI STONE -- "Pilot"

Here’s Eli (Johnny Lee Miller).  He’s an attorney in San Francisco and a complete yuppie asshole.  We meet him as he’s climbing a mountain in Tibet and telling us he might be a prophet.  Next, we join Eli in a flash forward to his boring life where he keeps hearing the music of George Michael.  He keeps hearing the music and stopping everyone around him to ask what the hell the song is.  First he does this in a work meeting and then later, when he’s having sex and he has to stop it because he hears the music again.  He wanders into his living room where he sees George Michael singing his hit Faith.  Then he passes out.

Wesley Snipes And The Money Train

Wesley Snipes was acquitted February 1st of felony charges of tax fraud and conspiracy. He was convicted on three counts of failing to file tax returns, misdemeanor charges that carry a maximum sentence of one year in prison per count. Most analysts expect him to receive a far lighter sentence, so considering that he was looking at a possible 16 years behind bars if he had been convicted and given the maximum sentence all around, the verdict qualifies as something of a victory.
